An account from lead teacher Mrs Wilson
Jade found school difficult at times; she often felt miserable, she struggled in Maths and Science and found herself too scared to ask for help. Her lack of confidence meant that she found it difficult to develop social skills, often convincing herself that she was incapable of achieving anything.
Jade’s teachers recognised she would benefit from Sky Sports Living for Sport and along with the selected group took part in a tailored programme including a rope course, raft building and fitness sessions.
Jade really enjoyed the raft building, even though she does not like swimming. Everyone encouraged her, especially Olympic and Commonwealth Swimmer Adam Whitehead, the school’s designated Athlete Mentor. Jade has flourished since taking part in the project.
It has given her the confidence to join in new activities and interact with others when she would not normally. She has also learned to ask for help and approach people when necessary. Jade enjoys school much more now, and can interact with her peers much better and now has the confidence to try new things.
