What's Sky doing?

A group of Sky employees on a led ride

We want to encourage...

... all our people: whether they’re fair-weather cyclists or seasoned commuters. The real enthusiasts have already embarked on training regimes to conquer challenges such as the Cheshire Hills; or even take on the Etape du Tour, one of the most gruelling legs of the Tour de France which culminates in a 21.5km climb up the face of Mont Ventoux at an average gradient of 7.6%. We’re proud to say that 26 of our employees threw themselves into the challenge this year, including Sky News presenter Dermot Murnaghan.

While for those who like a more leisurely pace, we held led rides around our Osterley site during Bike Week with over 100 staff taking in the local area with trained cycling leaders. We plan to roll out more of these rides throughout the year to help staff build their confidence and fall back in love with their bike.
Sky cyclists also led the way in this year’s Transport for London Workplace Cycle Challenge.

Our London based-staff logged a total of 62,000 miles during June 2009, and scooped the Highest Mileage Award. It’s the second year in a row a Sky team has won - with a team from Sky News team coming first in 2008.

We have more activities planned to get our staff on their bikes so watch this space.
