Before Sky...
...launched 20 years ago, there were only four channels available on UK television. There are now over 500 channels to choose from. From great family entertainment to documentaries and current affairs programmes that raise awareness of important social issues, we provide a choice of high-quality content for our customers, reflecting the diversity of their interests and cultures. Whatever the topic, we aim to make our programming engaging and accessible to a wide audience.
We understand that enabling greater choice requires providing families with the tools they need to manage that choice. So we have created an environment where families can trust the content we provide; and where they have the ability to consume it in a risk-free way, for example through parental controls to manage what their children can watch.
Parental Controls and PIN protection on TV
Sky has pioneered market leading parental control technology for the TV platform, allowing parents to set their own watershed and remove channels entirely from the programme guide. Our parental control features include age rating filters to prevent the viewing of selected programmes, the ability for customers to restrict access to specific channels completely or from 8pm, complete removal of the adult channel from the listings screen, monitoring of spend on Sky Box Office and online and PIN controlled access to classified films broadcast during the day.

We believe passionately that our programmes should reflect modern Britain and the rich diversity of our society. Sky viewers have access to over 50 international channels in various languages including Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic and Mandarin, and covering all genres from entertainment to Lifestyle and Culture, to News. We also have a number of radio channels for minorities, faith and special interest groups. Sky Movies’ SBO World, an on-demand service exclusive to Sky Player has over 150 World Cinema titles available, making it one of the largest on-demand World Cinema services anywhere.
