Video Interview Transcript

My name is Anwar Tambe. I work for Sky News - I am a producer there.

My job as producer or as a programme editor, which I sometimes do, is to come in, read the papers and look at other news sources to see what might be making the agenda for the next day; and to react to any news that might be breaking at any time and to prepare to produce material for the programme that is being produced next morning for Sunrise.

You pretty much work as a team on Sky News, which is very important. You decide what material is coming in, what stories you have to do. Then you have to talk to reporters, brief reporters, discuss stories with reporters and when the presenters come in you discuss the stories with them on what line you should start with and what line you should take.

I started my journalism in local newspapers - that is how I learnt my journalism. Then I became interested in TV, I wanted to get into writing and into pictures, so I had a foot in both camps. After a journalistic career I was able to get a job in an organisation like Thames TV and eventually I found my way into Sky News.

The best part of your job is you can know you are there when history is made. Quite often you can be quite blasé about it, but the last second is history and the next second is what counts for you and you are there at the centre of it, and you are there to tell stories and you are there to tell your viewers what is going on.

It is not easy to get into journalism, but it is worth it. You must be very persistent, be very determined, you must know what you want to do. You can never give up: you will find sometimes you do not get a positive answer. But if you show some initiative, some determination, you are strong enough, you are tough enough, you can deliver what Sky News wants, there is always a place for you on Sky News.
