We’ve been looking at how environmentally friendly our key suppliers are, and encouraging them to improve their energy efficiency.
We are committed to:
- the measurement of the total carbon emissions in our supply chain
- support suppliers to set targets to reduce CO2 emissions
- identifying the key sectors and assess their carbon footprint
- providing supply chain support with GAP’s SmartWorks programme
- greening the way we make TV
In 2008, Sky1 held a greening programming seminar. This event was designed for suppliers to understand the importance that Sky, as a business, places on environmental issues and what it currently does to reduce its CO2 emissions. The purpose of the seminar was to discuss working with us to identify practical steps we all need to take to create greener productions. The meeting was a great success with over 40 individuals attending and working together to develop a list of commitments to reduce the environmental impact of programming when working with Sky.
The session was an open debate with our current and future suppliers, regarding the best way of delivering productions that are greener and consequently have less impact on the environment. It also led to our greening of Gladiators, Season 2 and our Oscars and Golden Globes coverage.
This year, we set ourselves the target to engage with 50 of our most carbon intensive suppliers to help them measure their carbon footprint and reduce emissions further.
