Most Sky boxes...
...will have an Auto-Standby feature and put themselves to sleep when they are not in use. Collectively this helps our customers save tens of thousands of tonnes of CO2 and millions of pounds on their energy bills.
If your Sky box has this facility and you have left it turned on, but not used it (that is, you haven’t pressed any buttons on the box itself or your Sky remote control) for a period of four hours during the day and for a period of two hours after 11pm, you will see the "Auto Standby" warning on your TV screen for three minutes.
All Sky functions, such as scheduled recording on Sky+ and Sky HD+ and Anytime downloads, still operate with auto-standby.If you’re watching TV and don’t want your box to go into standby, press back up and you can continue viewing without interruption.
If you don’t respond (perhaps because you’re not watching TV or have fallen asleep), your Sky box will automatically go into Standby mode.
With this feature, we aim to reduce your energy bills and the environmental impact of your equipment. By downloading the feature to our set top boxes we aim to save customers an estimated total each year of £20 million on their energy bills and 90,000 tonnes of CO2.
If you wish to disable Auto Standby for any reason:
1. Press services on your Sky remote control.
2. If you’re using a Sky+ or Sky+HD box, highlight Sky+ Setup and press select. If you’re using a standard digibox, continue to step 3.
3. Highlight Auto Standby and set it to OFF using the left/right arrows.
4. Highlight Save New Settings and press select.
5. Press Sky to return to normal viewing.
If my box goes into standby, will I lose any programmes I’m recording?
No, whilst in standby your box can record up to two programmes at the same time.
