We have joined forces with WWF and our customers to help save 1 billion trees in Amazon rainforest of Acre, Brazil.

What’s the aim of Sky Rainforest Rescue?

Sky has joined forces with WWF in a bid to help save 1 billion trees in the Amazon. Sky Rainforest Rescue’s [Hyperlink to Sky.com/rainforestrescue] ultimate goal is to preserve about 3 million hectares from deforestation - an area roughly the size of Belgium.

Every minute, an area larger than 3 football pitches of Amazon forest is lost. Sky Rainforest Rescue will tackle deforestation on a truly ambitious scale. We hope it will become a role model for other areas of the Amazon, as well as other rainforests around the world.

WWF, Sky and the Acre state government aim to reduce Acre’s current levels of deforestation. Sky Rainforest Rescue will help do this through working with local communities and improving enforcement to prevent illegal logging. The location of this project, guarding the heart of the Amazon, means it can also act as a buffer against further deforestation.

Why does the rainforest need protecting?

The world’s tropical rainforests play a major role in slowing global warming by absorbing harmful greenhouse gases and storing it in the trees and soil. According to the UN, in just one year an average tree inhales 12kg of carbon dioxide.

Once a tree is cut down and burnt or left to rot, its stored carbon is released back into the atmosphere. This strikes a double blow for global warming, as the very trees that once helped absorb greenhouse gases now release them.
Deforestation is responsible for around a fifth of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions - that’s more than all of the world’s cars, planes, trains and ships put together. Tackling this must play an important part in how we fight global warming.

Join in by donating to help save the rainforest

Your donation can help Sky Rainforest Rescue [Hyperlink to Sky.com/rainforestrescue] save a billion trees in the Amazon, supporting the people whose livelihoods depend on the forest, while protecting the many endangered species that live there.

Every pound received is made twice as valuable because Sky has pledged to match all donations, up to the overall campaign total of £4 million.

Adopt a jaguar (opens in a new window) now for just £3 a month and we’ll send you an adoption pack including a certificate, cuddly toy and information booklet.

The jaguar’s natural habitat is the Amazon rainforest. However, the rapid destruction of the Amazon now seriously threatens this beautiful species.

You can also Sponsor an Acre (opens in a new window) for just £3 a month and we’ll send you a welcome pack, as well as exclusive updates on the project’s progress three times a year.

Alternatively you can also choose to make a one off donation. Just £20 can help save 1,000 trees.

Donate today (opens in a new window) and together we can make a real difference to the planet.
