Sky Arts Studio area
Over 23,000 visitors to Hay took part in the Sky Arts Path at Hay this year. Through the Sky Arts Path, people could explore a variety of creative experiences around the festival hosted by Sky Arts, such as a visual art installation, a 3D cinema and the smallest opera playhouse in the world. The Path led visitors to the Sky Arts Studio area where they could relax and browse through a variety of books and contribute their inspirations and thoughts in a collective Sky Arts kirigami book.
What did visitors to Hay have to say about the Sky Arts experience?
"I’ll be looking for my 3D TV soon"
"The opera was amazing, actually the whole path was great!"
"Excellent - a must see of the festival."
Sky Arts Studio Tours
We gave people the opportunity to learn more about the magic of television with Sky Arts Studio Tours. Vistors signed up to take the tour, led by the Floor Manager and had the chance to read the auto cue from Mariella’s chair. Various departments were on hand to explain their roles such as lighting, sound and camera.
Sky Rainforest Rescue
Visitors to Hay could enjoy the thrill of the Amazon with the Sky Rainforest Rescue experience. The Amazon rainforest is a unique natural habitat, home to thousands of amazing plants and has one of the highest diversities of life on Earth. Sky Rainforest Rescue is a three year campaign in partnership between Sky and WWF to help save 1 billion trees in the rainforest of Acre in northwest Brazil. To kick start this project, our aim is to raise £2 million from the British public over the next three years, and Sky will match it to our campaign total of £4 million. Giving just £20 could help save 1,000 trees. This experience showed why it’s important to preserve our vibrant rainforest.
Sustainable Hay
We are committed to minimising our impacts on the environment and inspiring action on climate change. We continue to work with Hay around sustainability, which saw the return of the dedicated Sky Shuttle Bus between the festival site and the surrounding villages throughout the festival, encouraging visitors to leave their cars at home. Day tickets cost £2, all of which was donated to the Sky Rainforest Rescue.
